Munich 2022 Championships Seeking 22,000 Lego Bricks For Wheelchair Ramps

A colorful wheelchair ramp made from lego bricks

The European Championships Munich 2022 will take place from August 11 – 22 2022 where more than 4,700 athletes from Europe will compete against each other in nine Olympic sports – Athletics, Beach Volleyball, Canoe Sprint, Cycling, Gymnastics, Rowing, Sport Climbing, Table Tennis, and Triathlon.

Organizers are taking this opportunity to raise awareness around need for increased accessibility everywhere by building wheelchair ramps using recycled Legos. The initiative, “Count & Last” aims to collect 22,000 Lego bricks by end of September to build these ramps on October 10. It is to be noted that the colorful Lego bricks ramps will be used only to highlight the importance of accessibility and will not be a substitute for proper ramps.

So far, 1,500 bricks have been collected. Those in Europe can drop off their recycled Legos at the Munich 2022 office at LOC European Championships Munich 2022, Spiridon-Louis-Ring 22, 80809 Munich, Germany. The bricks can also be shipped from anywhere around the world to the same address. If you live in Munich and are donating more than 1 kg of bricks, you can also schedule a pick up by emailing countandlast@munich2022.com.

The ramps will be built on October 10 at Olympiapark München, Olympiahalle east entrance from 10 AM to 5 PM. If you are in or around Munich, go help build these wonderful ramps!
