Snapchat is in accessibility related news again! After introducing an augmented reality lens to teach users ASL, Snap recently announced that Snapchat users can now add three most requested assistive devices to their Bitmoji avatars – a cane, hearing aids in several colors, and wheelchairs in 3D poses. (Snap acquired Bitmoji in 2016)
In an effort to broaden representation and to ensure all communities are represented in their products, Snap worked with Disability:IN, a global organization driving inclusion and equality, to bring these devices to Bitmoji. It looks like Snap is continuing to invest in improving experiences of all Snapchatters, and in the second half of this year, will be conducting research to learn how Snapchat and Bitmoji users with disabilities would like to be represented online.
