Many people have jobs that require them to use their upper body skills for doing labor intensive tasks like welding, plumbing pipes, heavy lifting, etc. However, it is not easy or possible to perform these tasks for those who have lost that ability because of injuries or disabilities. Ekso Bionics, a company that makes exoskeletons, recently unveiled an exoskeleton for the upper body called EksoVest that supports a worker’s arms by providing them more support for tasks that are at chest height or overhead. EksoVest is light, weighing only 9.5 lbs, and it can be worn comfortably throughout the day both indoors and outdoors.

Using an EksoVest can result in fewer injuries for workers and also provide an opportunity to perform labor intensive tasks to people who may have lost their upper body strength because of injuries or disabilities. Recently Ford Motors piloted this vest in their car manufacturing plants to see how it can reduce worker fatigue and injuries.
