Are you familiar with Guides on Apple Maps? A feature introduced with iOS 14, Guides allow you to make a collection of places based on interests or needs. For example, you can create a Guide of all bookstores in your city or hidden gems no one else knows of!
Recently, Gallaudet University, the world’s only university in which all programs and services are specifically designed to accommodate deaf and hard of hearing students, partnered with Apple and launched new Guides in Apple Maps that deaf people will find helpful. The new guides, titled The Gallaudet Neighborhood ; Deaf-Owned Businesses in the D.C. Area ; All About Gallaudet ; and Deaf Schools and Programs for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing have been introduced not only to promote ASL vibrancy and equity for the Deaf community but also to magnify the importance, cultural significance and economic strength of the Deaf community for the larger hearing population. Click the links above to access these Guides in Apple Maps or browser.
These Guides are publicly available in Apple Maps for everyone to use. If you think similar Guides need to exist in your city that promote accessibility and equity, you can certainly create your own following these instructions and sharing them with your loved ones and community members.
