Leo Rodgers: Amputee Cyclist Loves Riding With One Leg

Leo Rodgers is a tall, athletic man living in the Tampa area. He works at a bicycle shop and loves to take his bike everywhere. What’s really unique about his bike is that it doesn’t have a pedal or crank arm on the left side. As an amputee with just one leg, his right one, Leo doesn’t need anything on the left side anyway. Every day and everywhere, he sails on his bike with elegance, leaving every passerby in awe.

Leo lost his leg in a terrible motorcycle crash 13 years ago. He has always enjoyed the need for speed, and a little bit of recklessness in his younger days eventually cost him his leg. After rehabilitating and learning to walk with one leg, Leo embraced the bicycle, which eventually became an extremely important part of this life. He started working at City Bike Tampa, a bike shop, four years ago. He has led many rides in that area and has also competed four times in the US Paralympic Track Cycling Open, winning eight medals.
